Twin volcanic spires from the sea

About The Pitons Management Area (UNESCO)

UNESCO describes the Pitons as two forest-clad volcanic spires rising side by side from the sea, linked by the Piton Mitan ridge, and they are visible from almost every part of the island. The protected area covers 1,134 hectares of land and 875 hectares of sea, takes in the geothermal field of the Sulphur Springs and the caldera-like Qualibou Depression, and coral reefs cover more than 60% of its marine area. Petroglyphs and other artefacts in the area are traces of the Amerindian people who once lived here.
