About Soufrière and the Pitons: the back story

Soufrière sits on the south-west coast between the rainforest and the sea, with Gros Piton and Petit Piton rising on either side of its bay. UNESCO protects 2,909 hectares around them as the Pitons Management Area, including the Sulphur Springs, the caldera-like Qualibou Depression and the reefs offshore. It is the island’s most dramatic corner: climbs and waterfalls, the drive-in volcano, cacao estates, and some of the Caribbean’s most spectacular hotels.
